IV Sedation

At Hall Dental in Lethbridge, we offer conscious IV dental sedation. IV sedation is often used for procedures including dental implants, dental bridges and dental crowns.

What is IV Sedation?

Conscious IV dental sedation induces a deep sleep-like state, though it does not render the patient unconscious. The sedative is administered into your blood stream intravenously, and works quickly. Within seconds, you'll feel relaxed and drowsy. Since most forms of IV dental sedation do not make you unconscious, a local anesthetic is administered in conjunction.

Are IV Sedation and General Anesthesia the same thing?

IV sedation is a general term that refers to any sort intravenously administered sedative. This includes general anesthesia, which can be administered via IV or inhaled gas.

General anesthesia is the deepest form of sedation, and it makes patients unconscious for the duration of their procedure. » Learn More

After Your IV Sedation Appointment

Once your procedure is complete, there will be a 30-60 minute recovery period, to give the drugs time to wear off. You will, however, need to have someone available to drive you home, as you will still be somewhat drowsy.

Be sure to have an adult stay with you for the rest of the day after your appointment.
